Before you get to the counter
Find out your bag is overweight at home, not at check-in.
The excess-baggage desk is the worst place to discover you are two kilos over. You end up kneeling on the terminal floor moving shoes into a carry-on while a queue watches. This is 82 grams of scale that lives in the front pocket of your suitcase: loop it onto the handle, lift, and the display holds the number once the bag stops swinging.
The one thing to know first
The battery is not in the box
This scale runs on a single CR2032 coin cell, and our supplier removes it before shipping because lithium cells complicate air freight. The scale arrives without one, and it will not switch on until you fit a battery.
CR2032s cost a couple of dollars in any supermarket, pharmacy or hardware store, and one lasts a long time in a device you use a few times a year. We are telling you here rather than letting you find out the evening before a flight. Some competing scales do include the cell — if that matters more to you than anything else on this page, buy one of those instead.
What it actually reads
50 kg of capacity, in 50 gram steps
It weighs up to 50 kg (110 lb) and moves in 50 g increments — roughly a tenth of a pound. That is the right resolution for a suitcase and the wrong resolution for anything else: it will not portion flour and it is not a postal scale for printing shipping labels.
It needs at least 100 g on it before it registers, switches between kg, lb, °C and °F with the UNIT button, and has a tare function if you want to zero out a strap or a bag you are filling. The 4-digit LCD is backlit in green, which is the difference between reading it and not reading it in a dim hotel room.
There is also a temperature readout. The manufacturer does not state whether it measures the surrounding air or the surface it touches, so we are not going to tell you which — treat it as a bonus, not a reason to buy.
Two ways to attach it
Webbing strap or steel hook
Webbing strap. An 8.7 in (22 cm) fabric belt with a flat metal hook on the end. It goes round the suitcase handle and the hook clips back into the triangle ring under the scale. The webbing spreads the load across the handle instead of pinching one point, and nothing metal touches a hard shell.
Steel hook. A compact metal hook straight off the triangle ring, no strap at all. One motion, nothing to thread — the one to pick for duffel bags, holdalls and anything with a rope or webbing grab handle.
Same body, same electronics, same display in both. The only difference is what touches your bag.
How small it is
Palm-sized, and 82 grams
The body is 5.2 in (13.2 cm) long and 1.7 in (4.3 cm) tall — about the footprint of a chunky phone, curved so it sits across your fingers rather than digging into them. The webbing strap adds 8.7 in (22 cm) and folds flat under the body.
At 82 g it weighs less than a deck of cards. It is meant to stay in the suitcase between trips, which only works if you never notice it is there.
Using it
Four steps, about fifteen seconds

Three more things, before you buy
Leave yourself headroom against the airline’s scale. Our supplier publishes a 50 g division but no accuracy tolerance, so we are not going to print a percentage we cannot back up. Every hanging scale disagrees slightly with the counter scale at the airport. Aim for a kilo under your allowance and the difference stops mattering.
It is not a legal-for-trade or certified scale. The manufacturer states a CE mark; we have not seen the certificate and we are not going to imply it means more than it does. Do not use this to weigh anything you are selling by weight.
It is an unbranded factory model. DZC-T8, made in mainland China, sold under our listing. There is no brand service network behind it — only our own 30-day return window.

Questions people ask
Does it come with the battery?
No. It takes one CR2032 coin cell and the supplier removes it before shipping. Buy one before your trip — they are sold in every supermarket and pharmacy, and in most hardware aisles.
Will it match the airline’s scale exactly?
Nothing does. Airport scales are floor platforms, this is a hanging sensor design, and both have tolerances. The manufacturer publishes a 50 g division but no accuracy figure, so we will not quote one. Weigh at home, leave about a kilo of margin, and you will not be caught out.
Can I use it as a kitchen or postal scale?
No, and we would rather say so. It moves in 50 g steps and will not read anything under 100 g, which makes it useless for recipes and unsuitable for printing postage. It is a suitcase tool.
Which should I choose, the strap or the hook?
Strap if your bag has a telescopic or moulded handle you would rather not scratch, or if you want the load spread across it. Hook if you want one quick motion, or your bag has a rope or webbing grab handle. The electronics are identical.
How heavy a bag can I actually lift with it?
The scale reads to 50 kg, but you still have to hold that weight steady in one hand for a few seconds. Most people find anything past about 25 kg awkward to hold still enough for a clean reading. Rest the bag, breathe, lift once.
Can I take it in hand luggage?
Yes — it is 82 g of plastic and metal with a coin cell. Coin cells are fine in cabin bags. Check your airline’s current rules if you are travelling somewhere with unusual restrictions.
What does “Lo” on the display mean?
Low battery. Swap the CR2032 and it will read normally again. If the display is blank, the cell is either flat or not seated properly.
