A cardboard tree smells strong for four days and then smells like nothing. A plug-in warms the oil until the top notes burn off. This takes the approach hotels use — cold air, neat fragrance oil, no water and no heat — in something that fits a cup holder.

Press the base to eject the nozzle, unscrew the 10 ml bottle, fill it with the oil you like, click it back. Then pick a mode and leave it alone.

Why cold-air rather than steam

Ultrasonic diffusers mix oil into a water tank and push out visible vapour. That dilutes the fragrance, adds damp to a small space, and settles as a film on whatever is nearby — a windscreen, a dashboard, a desk.

Cold-air diffusion skips the water entirely. Neat oil is atomised straight into a dry micro-mist, so the scent arrives at full strength and nothing lands wet on your surfaces.

Two modes, four intensities

A car is a small sealed box and a living room is not, so the machine runs a different rhythm in each. Vehicle mode works in short, frequent bursts. Home mode runs longer and rests longer.

This is what decides how long a 10 ml bottle lasts. On Vehicle level 1 the machine is actually spraying for about eight minutes in every hour — on continuous, sixty. Start low: neat oil in a sealed car is stronger than most people expect, and you can always step it up.

Two rules that protect the machine

Both come from the manufacturer, and ignoring either one can end the unit. We would rather you read them now than discover them later.

1. Keep it upright, and do not overfill the bottle. The air outlet connects directly to the pump. If the machine is tilted hard or turned upside down, or if the bottle is filled to the brim, oil can travel back into the air pump and damage it. Fill to the marked level, keep it standing, and a cup holder on a normal drive is exactly what it was built for.

2. Charge at 5V/1A. Do not fast-charge it. This matters most in cars, where fast-charge sockets are now common. Fast charging can damage the machine. Use a standard 5V/1A phone plug, a computer USB port, or a car socket rated 5V/1A.

Fragrance oil is not included. You refill the supplied bottle rather than buying sealed cartridges, so you are not tied to one brand — use the oils you already own. Oil-soluble fragrance or essential oil, added neat. Avoid carrier-oil blends such as jojoba or coconut, and heavy resins like sandalwood or patchouli: they are viscous enough to clog a nebuliser.

Keeping it working

Every nebuliser needs its nozzle cleared from time to time, because oil dries in the opening while the machine sits unused. Run a little high-strength isopropyl alcohol through it every few weeks and the mist stays strong. Skipping this is the most common reason a diffuser of this type quietly stops producing scent.

Do I add water?
No. Neat oil only — water will affect performance.

Can I use my own essential oils?
Yes. You refill the supplied bottle rather than buying a sealed cartridge, so any thin, oil-soluble fragrance works.

How long does one 10 ml bottle last?
It depends entirely on the level you choose — see the mode table above. Level 1 sprays for about eight minutes an hour; level 4 sprays continuously. Most people settle on level 1 or 2.

Will it leak in my car?
Not if it stays upright and is not overfilled. It is designed for a cup holder. Laying it on its side or turning it over is what sends oil where it should not go.

Can I charge it in the car?
Yes, from a standard 5V/1A socket. Not from a fast-charge socket.

How do I switch scents?
Rinse the bottle and nozzle with isopropyl alcohol, let them dry, then refill with the new oil. Some people keep a second bottle assembly so they can swap without waiting.

Why is there no mist coming out?
The mist is meant to be near-invisible — trust your nose rather than your eyes. If there is genuinely no scent after a few minutes, the nozzle most likely needs an alcohol rinse.
