For the grout no amount of scrubbing is ever going to fix.

A bathroom can be spotless and still look dirty, because the grey has soaked into the grout rather than sitting on top of it. Bleach lifts surface dirt; it does not lift staining that went into porous cement years ago. This pen takes the other route — it lays a fresh, water-resistant pigment straight over the old line, so a dark seam reads clean again in a single pass.

How it works

Pigment, not detergent

A cleaner has to reach the stain to remove it. Cured grout is porous, so after a few years the discolouration is inside the seam and nothing you scrub with is going to reach it. That is why an hour of effort changes so little.

This works the opposite way. The chisel tip carries an opaque water-based pigment that sits on the seam and covers what is underneath. You are not removing the stain — you are burying it.

Four steps

Clean it, shake it, draw once, leave it

1. Clean the grout and let it dry completely.
2. Shake the pen, then press the tip on scrap paper until ink flows.
3. Draw along the seam in one steady pass.
4. Wipe any overrun off the tile face straight away, while it is wet.

The one thing that decides whether this looks good or streaky is the surface underneath. The pigment will not bond to a damp, greasy or soapy seam — and on glazed tile any overrun wipes off with a dry cloth if you catch it immediately, but not after it sets.

Both options are ten pens for the same price — the only difference is whether those ten are all one colour or one of each. If you know your shade, take ten of it. If you do not, take the mixed set and match it against the wall when it arrives.

Choosing a shade

Match the grout you have, not the grout you wish you had

Most people reach for white by reflex. If your existing grout is beige, sand or grey, brilliant white will make every seam you touch shout — and every seam you miss look filthy by comparison. Test on a hidden section before you commit to a wall.

Where it goes

Anywhere tile meets tile

Bathroom walls and floors, shower surrounds, kitchen splashbacks, benchtop edges, laundry tiling, entryway and hallway tile. It works on ceramic, porcelain and mosaic — the tile itself does not matter, only the state of the seam between.

It is equally useful the other way round: a dark pen turns a wall of small white tiles into a graphic grid, which is a far cheaper way to change a room than replacing anything.

Before you buy

Where this is the wrong answer

It is a cosmetic refresh, not a repair. If the grout is crumbling, cracked, hollow or missing, colouring it changes nothing structural and the pigment has nothing solid to sit on. That job needs re-grouting, and no pen substitutes for it.

It needs a narrow, intact seam. The manufacturer's own guidance is that it suits tight joints with no debris, and does not suit wide or uneven gaps. On a broad gap the tip cannot fill the width evenly and the result looks patchy.

It will not stick to a damp or greasy seam. Clean and fully dry the grout first. Skipping this is the single most common reason a result looks streaky or lifts later, and it is a preparation failure rather than a product failure.

Active mould is a health issue, not a colour issue. If black mould is growing rather than just staining, treat and kill it properly first. Painting over living mould hides it and nothing more.

The pens carry the factory's own branding. This is a factory product from an overseas supplier, printed for its home market. Everything you need to use it is on this page; there is no English leaflet in the box.

Questions people ask

Do I get ten pens whichever option I pick?

Yes. Every option on this page is ten pens at the same price. Choosing a shade means ten pens in that one colour. Choosing All 10 Shades means one pen in each of the ten colours. There is no single-pen option and no price difference between them.

Should I pick one shade or the mixed set?

Pick one shade if you already know your grout colour — you get ten pens of exactly what you need, which is the right call for a full bathroom or a whole floor. Pick All 10 Shades if you are not certain what matches, or if the grout in your bathroom, kitchen and laundry is not the same colour. The mixed set is the safer choice when you are guessing; a single shade is the better one when you are not.

How long does it actually last?

The manufacturer describes the ink as water-resistant and fade-resistant but publishes no lifespan, so we will not invent one. What we can tell you honestly: this is a surface coating on a porous material in a wet room. On a dry wall it lasts far longer than on a shower floor that is scrubbed weekly, and touching up a seam takes seconds — which is the real reason ten pens is a more useful quantity than one.

Will it kill mould?

No, and please do not use it that way. It is a colour, not a fungicide. If mould is actively growing, kill and remove it first with a proper mould treatment and let the area dry fully. The pen is for grout that is stained — the grey and black that stays after the mould is gone.

What if I go over onto the tile?

On glazed ceramic or porcelain it wipes off with a dry cloth while it is still wet — so keep one in your other hand and wipe as you go, not at the end. On unglazed, textured or natural stone tile it can grab, so test in a hidden corner before you start.

Can I use it on a shower floor?

Yes, and it is one of the places the difference shows most. Make sure the grout is completely dry first — a shower seam that looks dry can still hold water — and keep the shower unused overnight afterwards.

One coat or two?

One pass covers ordinary grey. Deep, dark or blotchy staining usually needs a second coat once the first is dry. Doing a heavy second pass while the first is still wet drags the pigment and looks worse, not better.

Does the pen dry out?

Cap it firmly and store it flat. Like any marker, an uncapped pen or a tip left pressed against a surface will dry. If the flow stops, shake the pen and prime the tip again on scrap paper before assuming it is finished. With ten in the box, a pen that stalls is an inconvenience rather than the end of the job.

Is it safe around the house?

The ink is water-based and low odour, but it is still a pigment marker and not a toy — keep it away from children and ventilate the room while you work. It is not certified for food-contact surfaces, so we would not use it on a benchtop seam where food is prepared directly.
