The spoon is the scale

Two grams of yeast does not register on a kitchen scale.

Neither does a gram of salt, or three grams of matcha, or the coffee for one cup. A big flat scale rounds them to zero, and a bowl on top of it is another thing to wash. This weighs in the spoon you are already scooping with — 0.1 g at a time, up to 500 g, with the number right under your thumb.

Two buttons, four jobs

Long press for on, short press to zero

Hold the left button to switch it on. Short press the same button to tare — that zeroes whatever is already on the spoon, so you can scoop, zero, and add the next ingredient without doing arithmetic. The right button switches between grams and ounces.

It also holds the reading once the weight settles, which matters more than it sounds: you can tip the spoon toward the light to read it without the number jumping around.

The spoon bowl unclipped from the handle for washing

The bowl comes off

Wash the spoon, keep the electronics dry

This is the detail that decides whether a gadget like this stays on the counter or ends up in a drawer. The bowl unclips from the handle, so honey, egg or oil goes under the tap and the part with the display and the battery never gets near water.

There is a hole through the end of the handle, so it hangs on a rail or a hook rather than rolling around a drawer.

Weighing liquids, granules, grains and powders

Where 0.1 g actually matters

Yeast, salt, matcha, espresso, medication for a cat

Anything you use a teaspoon of and cannot afford to guess. Baking — yeast, baking soda, salt, gelatine, powdered sugar. Coffee and tea — dose per cup instead of eyeballing a scoop. Liquids — oil, vinegar, soy sauce, syrup, egg.

Also the reason a lot of people buy one: portioning pet food and weighing supplements, where a vet gave you a number in grams and your kitchen scale reads in 5 g jumps.

Dimensions: about 23 cm long with a 6.8 cm bowl

Size and weight

About 9 inches long and 55 grams

Roughly 23 cm (9 in) from bowl to handle end, with a bowl about 6.8 cm (2.7 in) across. It reaches into a tall flour bin or a coffee bag without you putting your hand in.

It weighs 55 g, so it feels like a spoon rather than a tool. Measurements are taken by hand — allow a little either way.

Six colours

Same scale, pick the one that suits your kitchen

White, black, red, pink, green and teal. Identical inside — same 0.1 g steps, same 500 g range, same removable bowl, same price.

Before you buy

Five things worth knowing first

  • The battery is not included, and it is a CR2032. Not an AA you have in a drawer — the flat coin cell used in car keys and bathroom scales. Add one to your basket somewhere before this arrives, or it will sit in the box.
  • 500 g is what the sensor reads, not what the bowl holds. The bowl takes a few tablespoons. You reach 500 g by resting something heavier on the spoon, not by filling it — so treat this as a small-quantity tool, not a replacement for a platform scale.
  • 0.1 g is a kitchen resolution, not a laboratory one. It reads in 0.1 g steps, which is what you want for yeast and coffee. It is not a calibrated balance and we are not going to present it as one.
  • Do not submerge the handle. The bowl is washable, the handle is not. There is no water rating on this at all.
  • Cold ingredients only. It is PC plastic over electronics. Hot oil, boiling syrup or anything straight off the hob will damage it.

Good to know

Questions people ask

Does it come with a battery?

No. It needs one CR2032 coin cell and the manufacturer does not include it — batteries are restricted on a lot of international air freight, which is why. They cost a couple of dollars in any supermarket. We put this first because it is the thing people are annoyed about when it is buried at the bottom of a listing.

Can I really weigh 500 g with it?

The sensor reads up to 500 g, but the bowl holds a few tablespoons. In practice you use it for small amounts and you tare-and-add for bigger ones. If you want to weigh 500 g of flour in one go, use a platform scale.

How do I zero it with something already in the spoon?

Short press the power button — that is the tare. The display goes back to 0.0 with the contents still there, so you can weigh a second ingredient on top of the first without emptying it.

Will it handle honey, oil and egg?

Yes, and that is where the detachable bowl earns itself. Weigh, tip it in, unclip the bowl and rinse. Just keep the handle dry.

Is it accurate enough for coffee?

For dosing beans or grounds per cup, yes — 0.1 g steps is finer than most people brew to. For pour-over where you also want to time and weigh the water, a flat brewing scale is the better tool because you can put the whole cup on it.

Does it turn itself off?

Yes, after about two minutes of no activity. Good for battery life, occasionally annoying mid-recipe — long press and it is back.

Can I use it for pet food or supplements?

It is a common reason people buy one — portioning dry food and weighing powdered supplements a vet has specified in grams. It is a kitchen scale, not a medical device, so for anything where the dose really matters, check it against the pharmacy’s own measure.
