Four lights, both hands free

A head torch lights where you are looking. Not where your hands are.

So you end up with the torch in your teeth, or the phone balanced on the wheel arch, or a head lamp casting the shadow of your own hands over the exact thing you are trying to see. This puts a small LED on the thumb and the index finger of each hand — four in total. Whatever your fingers are doing, the light is already pointed at it.

One button per hand

Press the pod on the back of your hand

The battery pod sits on the back of the hand with ON/OFF printed on it, so you can switch a glove on with the heel of your other hand or against your thigh — you do not need clean, free fingers to operate it.

Both LEDs on a glove aim forward past the fingertips. Bring your thumb and finger together and the two beams converge on the same point, which is the whole trick: the light lands on the knot, the screw, the hook.

Read this bit properly

This is not a glove. Your palm stays bare.

It is closer to a harness than a glove: a sleeve for the thumb, a sleeve for the index finger, a strap over the back of the hand and a wrist strap. Your palm and your other three fingers are completely uncovered, and the tips of the thumb and finger are open too.

That is deliberate, and it is the reason to choose this over a lit glove — you keep full skin contact and full feel. You can tie a hook, find a thread by touch, or pick a splinter of glass out of a tyre. It also means it gives you no warmth at all. If you want warm hands, buy gloves.

Using the LED gloves inside a dark engine bay

Where it earns its place

Anywhere your head cannot follow your hands

Night fishing — re-tying a rig in the dark without pinning a torch under your chin. Under the bonnet or under a sink, where your head is outside and your hands are inside. Behind a TV, feeling for the socket you cannot see.

Also: a puncture on a dark road, a tent zip at 2am, a loft, a fuse box, a dog walk where you need a hand free for the lead. It is the kind of thing people buy as a gift and then quietly buy a second pair for themselves.

One size, wide range

Measure your wrist, not your hand

Because the palm is open, hand size barely matters. What matters is the straps. The wrist band fits a circumference of 4.7″ to 8.7″ (12–22 cm), which covers most adult wrists and a good number of teenagers.

The sleeves stretch to a maximum circumference of 2.8″ on the thumb and 2.4″ on the index finger. If you have unusually thick fingers, measure before you order. Each pair weighs 48 g.

Price per pair

Why we point people at three pairs

The price per pair falls steeply up to three, then almost stops falling. Three is where the discount stops being worth the extra outlay — which is why it is the option we pre-select for you.

Pack What changes per pair
1 pair full price
2 pairs about a quarter less each — the biggest single drop
3 pairs — our pick close to two fifths less each — the last big step down
5 pairs the lowest price per pair, but only a little below three

Not sure which one

Three honest ways to choose

Just trying them → 1 pair. It is the most expensive way to buy them and we are not pretending otherwise. If you want to see whether you get on with the idea before committing, this is the option.

Buying for a household or a gift → 3 pairs, our pick. One for you, one for the person you are buying for, one spare in the tackle box or the car. This is the last point on the ladder where the price per pair drops meaningfully.

Kitting out a whole crew → 5 pairs. It is genuinely the cheapest per pair on this page — but only a little cheaper than three, so take it because you actually want five, not because you expect a big saving over three.

Power and water

It runs on coin cells, not a charging cable

Batteries, not rechargeable. The pod on the back of the hand is closed with a single screw and has no charging port anywhere on it — you open it to change the cells rather than plugging it in. That means nothing to remember to charge before a night out and no lithium pack to go flat after two seasons, but it does mean keeping a few spare cells in the tackle box. Several competing gloves are USB rechargeable instead; if that is what you want, buy one of those.

We have not confirmed the exact cell yet. The manufacturer does not publish the type, the count or the runtime, and we are not going to print numbers we cannot stand behind. We have asked and will put the answer here when we have it in writing.

Water. It is sold as a night-fishing product and there is no IP rating behind that. Treat it as splash-tolerant, not waterproof: rain and spray are one thing, dropping your hand in the lake is another.

Before you buy

What it will not do

  • It will not keep your hands warm. Two finger sleeves and two straps. That is the design.
  • It will not replace a work light. These are small LEDs a few centimetres from what you are doing. Close-up work in the dark, yes. Lighting a whole engine bay or a room, no.
  • It gives you no cut or grip protection. Your palm is bare, so treat handling fish spines, hooks and sharp metal exactly as you would bare-handed.
  • Both beams point forward. There is no way to angle a light independently — you aim it by moving your hand, which is the point, but it takes a few minutes to get used to.

Good to know

Questions people ask

Does it charge with a cable?

No. The pod is closed with a screw and there is no port on it — it takes replaceable coin cells. We looked at every angle of the manufacturer’s photos to be sure, because plenty of listings in this category are rechargeable and it is an easy thing to assume.

Are batteries included?

Assume not. Small lithium cells complicate air freight and suppliers routinely remove them. We are chasing a written answer and will say so here either way — in the meantime, budget for a pack of coin cells.

Is this one glove or a pair?

A pair — one left, one right, four LEDs between them. The manufacturer’s own photo calls it “right hand + left hand (one set)”. We mention it because plenty of listings for this style of product ship a single glove and do not make that clear. A 3-pack means three complete pairs, six gloves.

Can I use them in the rain, or fishing from a boat?

Rain and spray should be fine. Submersion will not be, and there is no IP rating to hide behind. If you fish somewhere your hands go properly in the water, assume the lights will eventually fail and buy accordingly.

Will they fit a woman’s or a teenager’s hands?

Probably. The wrist strap goes down to 4.7″ and the palm is open, so there is no hand-size problem in the way there would be with a real glove. Small children, no.

Can I wear them over work gloves?

Over a thin nitrile or liner glove, usually yes. Over a padded work glove, no — the thumb and finger sleeves top out at 2.8″ and 2.4″ and a bulky glove will not go through.

Are they bright enough to walk with?

Enough to see your feet and be seen by a car, not enough to light a path properly. They are a close-work light first. If you want to navigate in the dark, use a head torch and keep these for the job at the end of the walk.

Can I wash them?

Wipe them with a damp cloth. There is electronics stitched into the fabric, so no machine wash, no soaking and no tumble dryer.
